ABOUT PEORIA ARIZONA

With a 2006 Census of 142,024 people, Peoria Arizona is a major suburb of Phoenix, and it is only approximately 13 miles away.  Peoria was listed in the “Top 100 Places to Live” by Money Magazine in July, 2008. 

In the late 1880s, settlers from Peoria, Illinois (hence the name), moved to what is now known as Peoria, Arizona, to farm the land.  Over the years it grew from a farming community to the 9th largest city in Arizona. Incorporated in 1954, the city has continued to see successful growth. 

Other nearby cities include Glendale, Surprise, Tempe, Scottsdale and Mesa. Transportation includes the nearby Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and bus.  All buses are equipped with bike racks so that you can travel with your bike if needed or wanted.

With a growing reputation for arts and culture, Peoria is home to the Challenger Space Center of Arizona and the Peoria Center for the Performing Arts.   Symphony Hall as well as several other theatres and museums are also located in and around Peoria. 

Revitalization plans have been underway for several years and the performing arts center was one step in that plan.  Continued plans include the city’s historic center and Old Town

At the northern end of Peoria are Cholla Mountain, White Peak, Sunrise Mountain, West Wing Mountain, East Wing Mountain, Twin Buttes, Calderwood Butte, and the Hieroglyphics Mountains

THINGS TO DO IN PEORIA

As you’ll see on the Things To Do page, there are extensive entertainment options for everyone including ice and water activities, zoos, parks, and more. Further offering sports, dining, bars, and more; kids, adults, singles, couples and families all have plenty to do.

When it comes to the West Valley, Peoria and surrounding areas are the center of shopping and entertainment. The area around the Peoria Sports Complex offers plentiful shopping opportunities. 

PEORIA REAL ESTATE 

Because of the rapid growth of the city over the years, there are many new Peoria AZ homes for sale of various types and styles.  The city has been focused on creating an identity of a nice residential area with plenty for its community to do and enjoy.

EDUCATION IN PEORIA

With 4 high schools, most of Peoria is within the Peoria Unified School District but parts at the northern end are within the Deer Valley Unified School District. Its high schools are Liberty High School, Centennial High School, Sunrise High School and Peoria High School.

There are 21 elementary schools within the Peoria Unified School District and two elementary schools within the Deer Valley Unified School District that are within city limits.  There are also a number of publicly funded charter elementary schools and high schools.
